What is Jimsim?
About a year ago, I wrote a rather simple
program to teach a few people about how to use a
Cisco router. Since then, I've shown a few people the
program and to my surprise, they actually
started using it. I decided to release it for
free.
Jimsim works by emulating a series of routers on
your local machine. You can then connect to these
virtual devices using your favorite telnet program. All
the network communication between the routers is
emulated across virtual network connections. So,
you don't need to worry about interfering with
your real network.
For the first version of this software, the
router features of this software is
rudimentary, but fits the needs of people just
learning to use Cisco routers. Here is a list of commands and features that are supported.
Also, you can visit the forums section of this
page to see the upcoming features in any new releases.
